The moment that unlocked Overflow…

After slightly over a decade into growing a small national marketing firm, there was an unsettling and growing sense of waste… putting his head on the pillow at night, Nate Lindquist had the feeling that millions of dollars were being pumped into marketing that could be put to work helping those in need at the same time.  He wanted to see what he called, “Less Selfish Ways” to create growth and wealth. 

Sure, some of the marketing was winning and helping people, but what if EVERY campaign could create a residual benefit to those in need?  How could we turn wasted dollars into raising money and awareness of helping children and families who couldn’t help themselves?  Then, during a challenge moment in business with some devastating losses …  That feeling began to both haunt and inspire what came next.

This idea was formed in 2006 – while things were going pretty well… until they weren’t…

With a crash of the banking, energy and building industries… Nate’s business lost 7 figures in business cash-flow… almost all at once.

The realization was cold, frightening – and reality changing.

A heart stopping moment of “nothing will be the same again”… and “what do I do?”

And, the selfishness of “How am I going to fix my problems of this market crash”… turned into “How may I serve those who need me and who are counting on me?”

Enter… The GIFTS® Formula. The foundation of the entire Overflow model and many of the other charitable outreach events.

By asking one question… “How can I serve and help?” new ideas started to flow, people wanted to get involved, the right people were attracted to volunteer, to give, to raise awareness and to donate in-kind services at all of our events…

We launched events with amazing partners:

  • A building materials company
  • An oil company
  • A jeweler
  • A builder
  • A TV show producer who had a dream idea (ABC: Extreme Makeover)

And dozens of other businesses and charity organizations who loved the idea of giving back as the way to grow and connect with the very best people.

And, many of our outreach events have become annual recurring events for a time and even ongoing!

Good people have always proven to invite good people into the Overflow process, creating a trusted culture of sharing of both ideas and opportunities. From this foundation, we’ve been able to raise millions of dollars in donations, in-kind services and support for those in need – along with raising awareness for amazing charity beneficiaries of all our events – with all ticket proceeds going to the benefiting charity.

And, guess what happened with our event partners along the way…
They had a blast.

Worked hard for something that mattered deeply.

Saw their teams and culture improve around the difference making.

And… they grew while giving back.

The breakthrough experience all started with an idea sketched on a yellow legal pad that Nate called, “The GIFTS® Formula, and in time… the events became known as both GIFTS Formula Events and Overflow for Success™ events…. Among the others you see listed and many others as well.

Now, we are pleased to launch Overflow Gives Back™ with our newest event partners!   Big Thanks to Chris, Tom and the team at Evia Partners and Noah Thomas Builders.  And… also to all of our event guests and sponsors past and present – including our Founders Elite™ Members.

One idea became a movement.

Along the way, because of this program, an invitation came to help promote and launch a project with ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition… creating an Overflow Event called Unite Build Change in collaboration with one of our clients as a sponsor.

Then came Fuel It Forward. We Build It Forward. Scare the Fear Away. More Energy for Family Moments. A Child’s Eyes Outreach. And even events where the actual event became the name of the outreach… some of which became annual charity events, all created by an amazing team and incredible clients who made giving their way to grow.

And all thrived in the process.

  • Repaired swingsets for children in a struggling school
  • Repaired a fence for a family who lost their Dad and husband in a military incident, protecting our country
  • Repaired a roof for an elderly couple
  • Built a handicap ramp
  • Built a basement bulkhead door and new stairway
  • Cleaned up parks
  • Built new trail head style community boards
  • Raised millions in donations, in-kind services, materials, tools and volunteer hours across more than two dozen programs

And the hundreds of people who came together to support these initiatives became friends… changing the face of a community forever.

The driving force behind all of it has always been the same… loving our neighbors, giving back, and enjoying a night of celebration.

Meeting those whose lives have been positively changed forever. And learning from a panel of 7 to 10 area leaders and business owners who have inspiring real life insights and stories you can’t get anywhere else like this…

These are amazing people from all walks of life. They share origin stories, overcoming unimaginable hardships, building 8, 9 and even 10 figure organizations, launching charitable programs that have changed the face of entire communities.

And everyone leaves inspired…

Knowing that every ticket for this event is a donation to helping children and families in need. It’s not an ask for money event. It’s a do what you can, learn amazing stories and insights and… also gain access to some exclusive opportunities, people and connections you won’t find anywhere else.

Moments that stay with you.

Giving a young boy a room full of Spiderman toys, clothes, curtains, posters and pajamas… all made his dreams come true as he and his mom moved into their new home.

Seeing a family displaced by a huge flood walk into their new home.

Providing clothes and transportation for a mom who’d lost everything.

Rebuilding a community devastated by tragedy.

Feeding, clothing and housing pre-teens in our orphanage who became pregnant due to assault… often from a family member… and then sending them to cooking school and college to help them secure a career and a future.

Always donating thousands of dollars to the charity who becomes our event partner and beneficiary for each event… hearing their cause, raising dollars and awareness in a way that takes care of the overflow they need.

And we all learn that when we live and give this way… we can’t give fast enough to outpace our growth and new full spectrum wealth.

This is just a snapshot.

A family that had been displaced needed a home. We showed up. So did thousands of others… asking nothing in return. What was magical is that great people brought their friends. We raised millions… not just dollars, but materials, tools, time, and something you can’t put a number on. We raised belief.

That was the first time. It wasn’t the last.

That’s what Overflow is. It’s not a fundraiser. It’s not a gala with a silent auction and name tags. It’s a room full of people who have built something real… and want to do something meaningful with what they’ve built.

Because now, with Overflow Gives Back… the story continues with our outreach partners… and You.

The vision is national. Then global. The mission hasn’t changed.

Overflow Gives Back was founded with a simple belief… great teams go further than any one person ever could.

Chris Baird and Tom Mikolas believed in the vision and stepped in as outreach partners and lead event sponsors. Evia Partners came alongside… not because it was a good business move, but because it aligned with who they already were.

Here’s what made it click. Two people who had never met… both independently chose to support orphanages. One in Peru. One in India. When they found each other in business, the giving was already there. Before the first conversation about strategy or money, the alignment was real.

Nate Lindquist

Nate Lindquist is a speaker, teacher, lifetime entrepreneur, and giver. For more than 30 years he has built and scaled businesses across multiple industries, advised brands like Velcro USA and Cabot Cheese, and served as a strategic advisor to CEOs and executive teams looking to cut the clutter, find their leverage, and grow with discipline.

His approach is simple. Remove what doesn’t matter. Focus on what does. Align the business around it with consistency. He works with a small number of companies at a time, in a direct, high-trust capacity, on the conversations most leadership teams avoid but need.

He is also the Founder of Overflow Gives Back™, a premium charity event platform built on the belief that real wealth starts with giving back. Earlier in his career, he served as Marketing Director on ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and over the years has helped lead more than two dozen outreach programs and Overflow events for children and families in need. He helps support the orphanage his wife Margaret founded in Peru.

Nate lives in Chicago with Margaret and is the father of six. The line he keeps coming back to: When you focus on overflow, the cup is always full.

Chris Baird

Chris Baird is a fourth-generation builder, entrepreneur, and adventurer. For more than two decades he has built and developed across every facet of residential real estate, from strategic fix-and-flip projects to multimillion-dollar custom homes, with more than 1,500 acquisitions and developments completed under his watch.

Chris’s approach is disciplined and metrics-driven. Identify the right property. Control the costs. Manage the build from the ground up. Deliver on time and on budget. He has built a reputation for structuring and completing complex projects and navigating the financial, legal, and operational details that drive profitable outcomes.

Chris and his family relocated from the Pacific Northwest to Florida in 2020. Since then he has focused on developing resilient coastal communities that meet the demand for modern, hurricane-ready luxury housing along the Sun Coast. As CEO of Evia Partners, he leads luxury home development across Florida and has managed portfolios worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
 

Chris is the founding sponsor of Overflow Gives Back™. He supports an orphanage in India and brings the same passion to giving that he brings to building. His belief and work show: real wealth and real generosity belong on the same blueprint.

Father of three daughters and a son. Grandfather. Outside of business, Chris channels the same boldness into life, whether skydiving, foil surfing, or spending time with his family. Always embracing challenge, growth, and adventure.

Overflow Gives Back is new. The mission behind it is not. Since 2006, events have been created under names like Unite Build Change, Fuel It Forward, We Build It Forward, Scare the Fear Away, More Energy for Family Moments, and A Child’s Eyes Outreach… each one designed around a cause, a community, and a room full of people who showed up ready to give.
